Community involvement - P&C

Parents and Citizens Association (P&C)

A message from the P&C President

On behalf of the Lugarno Public School Parents and Citizens Association (P & C) I would like to welcome you and congratulate you on joining our wonderful school community.

The P & C is a group of parents and carers who volunteer their time and skills to assist our Principal and the school in any way we can to enhance the school experience and learning environment for our children. We do this by running the school canteen, uniform shop and numerous fundraising activities.

Through our fundraising activities we can provide financial assistance to a number of school projects. In the past we have conducted community fairs, trivia nights, obstacle-a-thon, school discos and a bingo night. This year we also have an outdoor movie night which should be a wonderful evening.

I have found P&C to be a very satisfying and rewarding experience where many great friendships are formed. I look forward to meeting you and working with you here at LPS.

Please feel free to contact me any time on president@lugarnopandc.org.au should you have any questions or suggestions.

Together we can make a positive difference.

Melissa Porter
P&C PRESIDENT

Our school values strong partnerships with our families and community. Parents and carers can get involved through our Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) or by volunteering at our school.

Our P&C is a group of parents, carers and school community members. They assist with school planning, fundraising, events and volunteering. Our P&C works in partnership with our school to promote the interests of our school community.

Joining the P&C a great way to meet other families, get involved and contribute to our school's future. We would love to have you on board!

What is the role of the P&C?

The P&C has a vital role in the school. Its primary objectives are:

·      Provision of funding for additional teaching resources and aids.
·      Funding of upgrading equipment and improvements to the school facilities.
·      Participation in school decision making processes.
·      Promotion of social gatherings for parents, students and the wider community
·      Management of school services such as Canteen and Uniform Shop

The P&C provides an avenue for parent and community consultation on matters affecting your children. It promotes a two way dialogue between the teaching staff and the parents and facilitates the provision of school facilities which benefit all students.

How is the P&C Funded?

The P&C obtains funds from a variety of sources and events during each school year, for example:

·      Social activities such as trivia nights, BBQ’s, movie nights, special canteen days, colour runs
·      Special projects such as the Paver Wall
·      Community and Government grants

When do P&C Meetings take place and who can attend?

Lugarno Public School P&C meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month during school terms in the library and via MS Teams. The meetings commence at 6:30pm and are usually finished by 7:30pm. All families, interested community members and teaching staff are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings and fundraising activities. All the minutes are forwarded to the executive team and those members present at the meeting via email.

There is a membership fee of $5 per year which is paid at the 1st meeting to enable voting rights on meeting nights and the AGM. The Annual AGM is held in November of each school year.  The purpose of the AGM is to elect your school’s Executive Committee and Subcommittees for the next calendar year.

How can I get involved and keep up to date?

We encourage parents and school friends to help our children and the school by volunteering in various capacities. For example, helping in classrooms, working in the canteen, fundraising, grant writing, or by simply coming to the meetings and attending events. There are many ways you can get involved to gain a connection with the school and wider community.
