Before your child starts Kindergarten
Look In and Learn
Our 'Look In and Learn', held in May, invites parents, carers and children to take a tour of our Kindergarten classes to gain an insight into your child's first year of learning at Lugarno Public School.

Our Parent Information Evening, held in August gives parents and carers the opportunity to find out information about Lugarno Public School.

Leap Into Lugarno Kindergarten Transition Program
Our 'Leap Into Lugarno transition to Kindergarten program offers families and Preschool students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with our school, and prepare for a happy and successful start to Kindergarten.
It is held over 3 mornings in October-November with the final session including a Parent Information Session to learn about daily schedules, uniforms and communication.
The 2026 Transition Program Dates are:

What to expect in Kindergarten
Learning and development
Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Children build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, health and physical activity, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.
Daily Routines
Children learn routines such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in, but practising at home helps.
Best Start Assessment
At the start of the year, all Kindergarten children take part in the Best Start Assessment. This is a friendly, one-on-one activity where teachers learn about your child's literacy and numeracy skills. It is not a test and needs no preparation.

To help get your child ready for Kindergarten, introduce them to Daisy and learn together about her very first day at Primary School.
